Christmas – One Solitary Life

He was born in an obscure village. He worked in a carpenter shop until he was thirty. He then became an itinerant preacher. He never held an office. He never had a family or owned a house. He didn’t go to college. He had no credentials but himself. He was only thirty three when the public turned against him. His friends ran away. He was turned over to his enemies and went through the mockery of trial. He was nailed to a cross between two thieves. While he was dying his executioners gambled for his clothing, the only property he had on earth. He was laid in a borrowed grave. Twenty centuries have come and gone, and today he is the central figure of the human race. All the armies that have ever marched. All the navies that ever sailed. All the parliaments that ever sat and all the kings that ever reigned have not affected the life of man on this earth, as much as that – ONE SOLITARY LIFE.

War and Peace – The Refugee Crisis (1)

Promote Peace As some observers have noted, the present world crisis of refugees fleeing from one part of the world to another is the greatest of tragedies witnessed since World War II. Ascertaining the motivation is complex, but the most evident is the fact that migrants and refugees are fleeing war and persecution in countries of the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Heart rending and shocking are the photographs and pictures made available through media, TV, Internet and other communication devices. Call yourself a robot or a beast if you are not visibly moved at the sight of these. In terms of statistics more than 2,370 people have died while jumping on trains crossing the Eurotunnel to reach the United Kingdom. More than 70 refugees were found dead in a parked truck in Eastern Austria and one Austrian official called it a ‘dark day,’

While bordering countries of these war=ridden, poverty-stricken countries have offered to help granting asylum to refugees; figures of those seeking asylum are fast reaching out of proportion. This has caused some of these countries to forcibly close their doors to these helpless victims, as anti-immigrant sentiments keep rising high.

Come to think of it! The tragedy seems to be getting worse with world leaders interested only in helping curb rebels, sending arms and ammunition, with no peace agreements signed or resolutions made to end the conflict and resolve the crisis, and thus sadly there seems to be no end to war, resulting with no peace in sight in the trouble ridden countries.

One thing however seems certain’ unless some kind of settlement is reached in the Middle East, Africa and Asia, there will be no end to the refugee crisis; a dreadful evil, which will have its far reaching consequences, social, economic, political and environmental, bound to threaten the very existence of human beings and nation states round the world.

Religion seems to be in the forefront of the debate. Religious chauvinism, be they radicals, fundamentalists, jihadists, extremists, fanatics….You name it! seem to be manipulating religion to their own advantage, to justify war and terrorism. Read More War and Peace Read the rest of this post »

Blest are the Peace Makers

They Shall be called the Children of God

Peace! Peace! Peace!

What pleasant feelings. What beautiful sentiments,

What serene and wholesome thoughts within…..

These words evoke!

Reams and reams of paper, millions and millions of words,

Thousands and thousands of books, have been written and peace proposals expressed

As to ways and means of bringing about peace,

Finding peaceful solutions, to this problem filled and war-torn world.

God indeed does assure us, that they will be blessed,

Who strive for peace and work for peace; look to peaceful means to solve problems and conflicts

Rather than resort to war and terrorism.

Let peace first reign in our own hearts, for nothing can spring from what it is not,

Let God be the peaceful Vine growing within us

We the branches spreading His peace everywhere,

In the world around us.

may God bless those peace-makers, make fruitful their efforts for peace in the world,

May your kingdom come within our hearts Lord,

And overcome the reign of darkness, of the devil and his cohorts;

That the reign of peace may return to earth,

And to our hearts….

Earth Day Musings – April 22nd

Planet EarthPlanet Earth! – Me I am like a glowing ball,
Out in space in a family of Planets;
I spin my way round the sun,
Proud to be the only ground,
Where living things of all kinds
Can survive a life-long.

Wrapped around me is a blanket soft,
Of a stuff that is called air;
And underneath the rocky ground,
Molten lava fluid hot.
In between is blessed land,
While waters cover the sea,
Where nature has lavished in beauty unbound,
A wealth of goodness for mankind.

Earth – I am very special,
And made to be so,
For our Creator so loves the world,
That he takes good care of it, for humans to live,
As it please him.

So be thankful human beings, for whatever you are blessed with,
For among the countless stars, beaming upon the Milky Way
And beyond. We have got THE BEST!

Human beings living in me, are sometimes careless.
Unaware of the dangers, that could cause them to perish.
Beware of greenhouse gases, and global warming….
Do be considerate, and save yourselves,
And Me – beautiful planet earth from perishing!

The Five Magic Words

The other day I was talking over my Home phone to Customer Service, about a Typing error as to my Address label, in the mailing as it was typed wrong.  It was DIALOG a well know Firm, dealing with Smart Phones in Sri Lanka. The lady recognized the error, but said nothing about it. Obviously she did not know or had forgotten the word “sorry” for it was nowhere in the language of the Smart Phone.

Living in a secular world of “fast life,” where Tech devices seem to be a “must” in everybody’s pocket, what happened to those Magic Words we started our day in the real world, meeting friends and family, people at work, employers, employees, elders and so on personally? Building happy relationships with them instilled a kind of peace and harmony within, which is not the same as socializing with these over a smart phone. This feature is not unique to one particular Institution, organization or persons. It is rampant in the fabric of a virtual world we are getting increasingly accustomed to.

Let us pause to remind ourselves of those five magic words, that could make our day a delightful one.

Five little words so magic, five little words so sweet.

Can make the world so happy, and hearts warm and cheerful.

The first little word is please; Pressed upon the lips with ease.

The next little word is thank you. It makes you feel so good.

The next little word is welcome. You’ve spelt out a great charm.

Next little word is sorry, what a beautiful word in your vocabulary.

Nest little word is excuse me; You’ve accomplished a magic exceedingly beautiful.

Peace Message of Christmas – Love and Peace

"Glory to God in the Highest and Peace to men of goodwill!"

Promote Peace “Glory to God in the Highest and Peace to men of goodwill!”

The Message of Christmas is clear and simple, namely that a life of peace is made available to all and sundry, who  wills goodness to all in mind, heart, body and spirit rendered through the Gospel message Luke: 2,14. The birth of Jesus born in a stable, couldn’t deliver a more pertinent message, humble and simple, yet sublime; delivered through a majestic star. A Star shinning in the darkness of a night. To the Magi it appeared both Day and Night. ‘Day’ it shines through the darkness of sin and ignorance, ‘Night’, the darkness all around of selfishness and corruption. Pope Francis in his Christmas message said, “God’s message of peace is stronger than darkness and corruption.” So, all we need to do is pursue peace and eschew war.

This message of peace is common to all religions; Buddha, Prophet Muhammad, Confucius, LaoTze, and founders of all other religions have spoken about it, exhorting all mankind to work for peace and abhor war. Present day world leaders, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Mother Teresa, Morihei Ueshiba, Diana Robinson, and many others, have made references to the need to work for peace, with great urgency. In recent times we have seen in world news, how religious leaders of different Faiths, shedding their sectarian differences have come together in love, and made a call to end war and terrorism and work for peace. Isn’t that a great example to emulate? Peace like happiness, begins within. What you are, is what you will be to your to your neighbor and the world around you. Like Jesus who is known as the ‘Prince of Peace,’ let us all be princes and princesses of peace to all around us.

Children are the grassroots level to begin peace, and work towards world peace. Let us help promote peace education of young children to become ‘peace makers,’ in their cultures and life-styles.

World Peace LogoIn their Iconic Song, a generation ago “Give Peace a Chance,” the Beatles echoed a much needed mind-set for the world struggling to achieve a modicum of peace in a world torn with  war, fighting, killing distress, discontent and refugees flying from one place to another. Our world today is not much different from then.

The world wide web gives us sad and bad news daily of growing tensions and threats of war. Turn on the TV or news on your Smart Phones, What do you see? What do you hear?  We are spear heading for our own destruction, our own survival, and more the next generation. Think about it. How much complacent, and couldn’t care less are we about it?

Give Peace a Chance …… Think about it for the good for your  own self and posterity…..Let There Be Peace On Earth@2008-09-07T09;25;07 Read the rest of this post »
